Supernatural Rewatch

My husband and I have recently begun a Supernatural Rewatch. Some of that is because the first season of Supernatural is one of our favorite seasons of TV to date. Some of it is because he writes Urban Fantasy so he wanted to watch it as inspiration fuel.

Sam and Dean talk to a victim of supernatural events.

Sam and Dean Winchester battle the supernatural on a weekly basis.

We’ve also been watching some of the episodes with our kids on our Media evenings, so I thought I would start a series of rewatch recaps for the show.

So, an admission before we begin:

I have only watched through Season Five of Supernatural.

This is because the show was originally meant to end at Season Five. While this might get me broiled alive, I started to lose interest at that point. But for you, dear readers, I might actually move past that to have a complete watch for the blog. That means roughly halfway through this will swap from a rewatch to a first-time watch. Sounds fun, right?

This series will move forward whenever I get a chance to sit down and rewatch Supernatural episodes. It may come in fits and starts. But I think it will be interesting, both to go back and start from the beginning, and to finally move on in the story.

I can’t promise it’ll be flowers and roses and all great review recaps of the episodes. I won’t tear them apart unnecessarily either, though. And while I might not have been as excited about the newer seasons, like I said earlier, I really love the first season. The monster-of-the-week format, often using urban legends as plot inspiration worked perfectly. The show also managed to do some very interesting and creative effects despite its low budget. And the first season is scary. Not in a shock-jock hack and slash way, either. It’s great. The rest of the show holds my attention less as it spins into “chosen family, war for heaven” kind of territory. But hey, I’ll give it a chance again.

And of course, there will be spoilers. So if you haven’t sat down and watched the road trips of Sam and Dean Winchester yet, you’ll probably want to avoid this blog series.

Have you watched all of Supernatural? What season is your favorite? What episodes could you watch over and over again? Have you done your own Supernatural Rewatch? Let us know in the comments below.

I was there from the beginning. I started losing interest when Bobby was killed off. I still watch it and go back and watch the older seasons on TNT on demand. My wife used to always watch it with me but they lost her with the angels and God being less than holy. Stand alone episodes are still the best and season 1 and 2 are my favorites.
