Greetings UF fans! I’m Jemma Jablowski and I’ll be a guest contributor here at Urban-Fantasy.com. I’m super excited to be part of the team bringing you all things Urban-Fantasy!
I’ve enjoyed Urban Fantasy since I first got into reading which was about when I learned how to read in the first place. Young Adult Fantasy has always been a favorite genre of mine and Urban-Fantasy is a very common sub-genre of that category.
I would classify Urban-Fantasy as any story told in a modern setting with a fantastical or supernatural element to it. (Honestly, I rarely see a point in reading a story without a fantastical element to it. Who wants to read about the “real world?” The point of fiction is to take a break from the real world for a bit.)
So what do I do when I’m not escaping into fictional worlds by reading or writing?
Well, I’m happy to say that real life is pretty fantastic. My family takes up most of my time right now; my husband and I gave birth to a beautiful son at the beginning of March. (Well… I did most of the birthing, but my husband was present for the event.) During the day, I work part-time as an office assistant at a local cabinet building company.
It’s a job I enjoy because waiting for the phone to ring, or doing mindless filing, leaves quite a bit of time to think or write stories in my head. It’s an introvert’s dream job.
I am also a writer. I’m currently working on my first novel, Mage. Unfortunately, Mage is Science-Fiction/Fantasy, not Urban-Fantasy, so I won’t be discussing it at length here. If you are interested, I will be discussing my novel on my personal blog as I work on it.
And I will likely be writing Urban-Fantasy at some point in the future. In the meantime, I’m content to read or watch Urban-Fantasy and write about it here.
Other hobbies of mine include drawing and painting and cooking. Another thing I tend to do is analyze characters with my husband. He studied Psychology in college, where I studied English. The result is that whenever we watch movies or shows together, the characters get scrutinized to death.
We will spend hours discussing personality types, character arcs, archetypes, and temperaments of various fictional characters just for fun. Because of this, I expect a lot of the reviews I will contribute will naturally be character focused.
I’m looking forward to scrutinizing- I mean reading, watching, and reviewing- lots of Urban-Fantasy with you. It’s going to be fun!
